A Rite of Passage

Mirror, mirror on the wall who is fairest of them all. A childhood fairy tale for sure, but what is today’s reflection that stirs the heart. What truth lies within it that is open only to my interpretation?

Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax. Just feel what you feel.

It started with the turn of a key generating no electrical spark, no charge. In a moment life moved from ‘taking things for granted” to ‘now what’ with a hint of frustration and maybe even fear. I felt the beginnings of what was to become a shattering.

I sensed what earthly labels so aptly define as my “comfort zone” foundation being shaken. I felt a flash of senior citizen, elderly, and old age adjectives that have long felt foreign to me. I felt alone in the center of this life reflection. So I sat down to enter the halls of silence.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax.

As I quieted my mind I felt this block, this anxiety pushing back. It feels life, as I have known it, teeters on the edge of an abyss. Is this another rite of passage? In the midst of one question comes another. I yelled into the abyss, who am I in this strange land? It is then that I heard the soul whispers say,’you are all you have ever been and you are becoming all that you are destined to be and more.’

In that resurrected moment I stepped out into the abyss. In the utter silence of each breath, I experienced my created in God’s image self. From that place I am pure and innocent, strong and of the light. I wear the badge of earthly time transformed into ageless glory. In the flash of a moment I knew a truth. What feels helpless and impossible by earthly measure does not exist in the timelessness of God.

Through grace, I was gifted an eternal reflection right in the midst of an earthly dilemma. The truth is I, we are all wrapped in the arms of the tenderest love through God incarnate.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax into the pure joy of this eternal sigh.
